The Managing Director of Jaipur-based Shakun Group, Vallabh Das Maheshwari, died in a car accident on Delhi–Mumbai Expressway. This accident has raised questions about the safety of the high-performing BMW i7. After this tragic accident, serious questions have been raised about the company’s claims regarding safety features and cutting-edge technology.

Vallabh Maheshwari and his life

The 62-year-old Vallabh Das Maheshwari was the MD of Jaipur-based conglomerate, Shakun Group. He dedicated three decades to the business’s growth and expansion, holding a strong presence in advertising, infrastructure, real estate, and hospitality. Among his many companies, some were SGM Buildcon, Shakun Communication Infrastructure, Shakun Advertising, Manokamna Real Estate, and N.S. Publicity India. Vallabh Das Maheshwari was known for his philanthropic and hospitality ventures. His foundation Roop Shakun Foundation was involved in many social works. He was a designated partner at Shakun Fort and Palace LLP and Shakun Realty LLP.

How did the accident happen?

On Sunday while Maheshwari was traveling from Jaipur to Mathura, his car lost control on the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway near Alwar, Rajasthan. The BMW i7 first rammed into the barricades and then struck a culvert wall. The collision was so severe that the car was completely destroyed. Maheshwari was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but he was already dead. The driver survived the accident.

Why are questions being raised about the BMW i7?

In the electronic sedan category, the BMW i7 is said to be the most technologically advanced electric luxury sedans in the world and it is as competent as Mercedes‑Benz EQS. The sedan comes with 101.7 kWh battery pack, 449 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.

Some of the ultra-luxury features the car offers include dual infotainment screens, a 31-inch 8K rear entertainment display, massage functions, executive lounge seating, a premium sound system, climate control and even drive-assistance technologies. Even though the safety system was very advanced, accidents depend on the driver’s caution.

A phone call to the police late at night initiated a disturbing series of events in Pune, Maharashtra. Dilip Namburi Kandathil, a 56-year-old real estate businessman, reportedly informed police that he had killed his wife, 53-year-old Bindu Kandathil, at their home in the Khadki locality. Following the call, officers from the Khadki Police Station promptly arrived at the residence in the Orion Complex. Upon entering their bedroom, they discovered Bindu’s lifeless body.

Details of the Crime

Authorities indicated that the alleged homicide occurred within their home without any indications of forced entry. As detailed in the first information report, Kandathil is accused of smothering his wife using a blanket during a domestic dispute that quickly escalated.

Underlying Issues of Debt and Distrust

During interrogations, Kandathil expressed that he had been experiencing considerable financial strain due to business setbacks, leading to accumulated debts. He further noted that his wife was undergoing treatment for depression, which may have contributed to their troubled relationship. According to police accounts, frequent arguments were fueled by accusations of mistrust, notably over Kandathil’s alleged interactions with his former wife, from whom he is divorced. This cycle of conflict reportedly left him feeling emotionally compromised.

Immediate Arrest Following Confession

After the alleged incident, Kandathil made the unusual decision to contact the police himself, promptly leading to his arrest. Law enforcement took him into custody at the scene as forensic teams commenced their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Ongoing Investigation

A case has been filed against Kandathil under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is being overseen by Sub-Inspector Sharad Dethe, with police actively compiling evidence and testimonials to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident. As the inquiry continues, the domestic altercation has escalated into a serious murder case marked by financial difficulties, interpersonal distrust, and a confession that left officers surprised.

A routine morning ride turned deadly for 58-year-old businessman Amitabh Jain in Gurugram’s DLF Phase 2 on Wednesday, after a white Hyundai Santro struck him from behind and sped away. The impact, captured on a neighbourhood CCTV camera, has triggered a wider investigation and renewed concerns about the increasing dangers faced by cyclists on city streets.

CCTV Shows Sudden Impact on an Otherwise Empty Road

Around 7–7:15 a.m., Jain was pedalling along one of the quiet internal lanes he frequented every morning. CCTV visuals show him riding steadily near the edge of the road when a Santro appears behind him and abruptly veers into his path. Despite the road being largely clear, the driver made no attempt to slow down or overtake before the collision.

Passersby immediately helped rush Jain to a nearby private hospital. Doctors initially detected a pulse but his condition deteriorated rapidly, and he was pronounced dead around 9 a.m.

Police Trace Car Number, Launch Search for Driver

Investigators used the CCTV footage to pull the vehicle’s number plate DL 3C BQ 2461 and traced it to an address in Delhi. Officers visiting the location, however, found neither the car nor the person linked to it.

“We have identified the car DL 3C BQ 2461 and are working to trace the owner. He will be arrested soon,” said SHO Sunil Kumar.

A case has been filed under sections 281, 106, and 324(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. With Jain’s death confirmed, the charges may expand. The autopsy will take place once his elder son, who works in London, arrives in India.

Family Mourns Loss of a Man Who Survived Far Worse

Relatives described Jain as someone who had endured serious health challenges before. “He shifted to Gurgaon in 2014 and lived here with his wife, who is a senior conservator at Parliament Museum… He underwent a liver transplant nearly 10 years ago and to think that someone who survived that died in a road accident is heartbreaking,” said a family member.

Jain, who once ran a chemist shop in Delhi’s Malka Ganj, was fond of travel and had recently completed a bike trip to Jaipur. His daughter lives in Bengaluru.

Residents Say Lanes Have Become Unsafe

People living in DLF 2 voiced anger over the increasing traffic that cuts through their residential lanes. Many blamed lax entry controls for the growing threat to pedestrians and cyclists.

“The internal roads of our colony have virtually turned into a thoroughfare between NH8 and MG Road… It is extremely unfortunate that such an incident happened,” said Col Anil Nanda.

Another resident, Vikas Thapar, remarked, “What is the point of calling this a gated colony when safety is missing on the ground?”

Neighbours Suspect More Than an Accident

While authorities are treating the case primarily as a hit-and-run, some relatives and locals believe it may not have been a random crash. They have urged the police to investigate whether the collision was intentional or linked to any personal disputes.

Cyclists Continue to Face Deadly Risks in Indian Cities

The tragedy adds to a pattern seen across urban India, where cyclists remain highly vulnerable due to the absence of protected lanes. Government figures confirm that more than 4,000 cyclists were killed in road crashes in 2022 and 2023. Gurugram alone has seen around 15 cyclist deaths in over 25 incidents this year.

Police continue searching for the missing driver and the vehicle involved as the investigation expands.

Registration Number

VIP Number Auction

In a shocking act of violence, a 40-year-old entrepreneur was fatally shot while exercising at a gym in Rajasthan’s Kuchaman town on Tuesday morning. The assailant, who fled the scene immediately after the attack, is yet to be identified, and police are currently analysing surveillance footage from nearby areas.

The victim, Ramesh Rulania, was a prominent local businessman who owned both a motorcycle dealership and a hotel in the area. The shooting took place around 5:20 am at a fitness centre located on Station Road, where the suspect entered the second-floor facility and opened fire at close range.

Security footage revealed the masked attacker calmly entering the premises before carrying out the targeted killing. Fellow gym members rushed Rulania to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had died from his injuries.

Police officials believe the incident may be linked to an ongoing extortion racket. According to sources, Rulania had allegedly received threats in recent days from the infamous Rohit Godara gang, a criminal network that operates widely across western Rajasthan, including the Didwana-Kuchaman belt.

Rohit Godara Gang Claims Responsibilty

Soon after the murder, a Facebook post attributed to Virander Charan, a known associate of the gang leader Rohit Godara, claimed responsibility for the act. In the message, Charan accused Rulania of insulting the gang during a previous extortion call.

“We called him a year ago. He used abusive language and said on social media that he wouldn’t even give us Rs 100. Today everyone will know we don’t forget anyone,” Charan posted.

“Whoever ignores or turns a deaf ear to our calls, be prepared – everyone’s turn will come,” he added.

This development has heightened concerns among business owners in the region. Police sources confirm that several other traders have also reported receiving similar threats recently.

Rohit Godara, originally from Lunkaransar in Bikaner, is no stranger to law enforcement. Currently believed to be residing in Portugal, he has been accused of masterminding several high-profile killings across India.

Among the most notable cases linked to him are:

The assassination of gangster Raju Thehat in Sikar in December 2022, executed by four attackers.

His alleged role in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, a case that shocked the nation.

The December 2023 murder of Karni Sena leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, which Godara publicly claimed responsibility for.

Beyond Rajasthan, the gang’s network seems to have spread its influence. In a recent case from Delhi, former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ronak Khatri filed a complaint after receiving a death threat and extortion demand of Rs 5 crore from an international number.

“Immediately after the call, I also received a WhatsApp message from the same number repeating the demand and the death threat,” Khatri wrote in his police statement.

Law enforcement has initiated a detailed investigation into Rulania’s killing, while efforts are underway to trace the shooter’s identity and possible accomplices. The brutal nature of the crime has triggered a wave of fear and unease, especially among the local business community.

Authorities have appealed for public cooperation and assured that all leads are being pursued to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Prior to this, he posted a heartrending Facebook live video revealing his severe financial distress and inability to afford insulin for his diabetic daughter.

In the video, Shahbaz tearfully disclosed that he was overwhelmed by debts amounting to Rs 15 crore. He also accused a business partner of persistent harassment, which worsened his mental state. “He appeared emotional and said he could no longer bear the mounting financial pressure,” police stated. His emotional appeal was a desperate request for help directed toward celebrities and industrialists.

Businessman Uses Guard’s Gun to End Life

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm near the Ring Road area. After concluding the livestream, Shahbaz reportedly sent the office security guard to buy a cold drink. Taking advantage of the guard’s absence, Shahbaz grabbed the guard’s licensed 12-bore firearm and fatally shot himself in the head. The sound of the gunshot alarmed nearby people and the guard, who returned to find Shahbaz already dead.

His family members witnessed the Facebook live and immediately contacted the police. However, by the time officials arrived at the scene, Shahbaz had succumbed to his injuries. The video has since gained widespread attention on social media platforms.
