An auto rickshaw driver has been apprehended for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Adoor, Kerala, after reportedly drugging her with juice laced with a sedative. The incident, which took place in February this year, has drawn significant attention from local law enforcement and the community.

Details of the Incident

The police stated that the victim, a 28-year-old woman, had been living separately from her husband in close proximity to the accused’s residence. According to authorities, the woman frequently hired the auto rickshaw driven by the suspect, identified as Vinod, a local resident. The alleged assault occurred when Vinod is said to have spiked the woman’s drink with an unknown substance, resulting in her loss of consciousness.

Subsequently, the victim filed a formal complaint at the local police station last month, prompting an investigation. The delay in apprehending the suspect led the woman to escalate her concerns to the District Police Chief, which intensified the ongoing investigation.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation

Following the escalation of the case, police officials acted swiftly to locate and arrest Vinod, who had reportedly gone into hiding after the complaint was filed. On Friday night, he was taken into custody as efforts continued to gather digital evidence related to the allegations made against him.

Law enforcement agencies have confirmed that Vinod is currently undergoing interrogation. Police are focused on retrieving electronic media pertinent to the case to ascertain the full extent of the incidents and the victim’s claims. They have stressed the importance of thorough investigations in such sensitive matters to ensure justice is served.

Vinod is expected to be presented in court as part of standard remand procedures following his arrest. The authorities are committed to upholding the victim’s rights while continuing to pursue the case with diligence, indicative of their prioritisation of women’s safety and issues surrounding sexual crimes in the region.

Community Response and Awareness

The reported assault has sparked concern within the local community of Adoor, with residents expressing their alarm over such incidents occurring in their vicinity. Community leaders have called for increased awareness and preventive measures to curb sexual violence, emphasising the need for individuals to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activities.

As investigations progress, discussions around the importance of support systems for victims and the necessity of swift legal actions have gained momentum in the region. Activists are urging for stronger frameworks that offer psychological and legal assistance to victims of sexual crimes, highlighting the significance of creating an environment where individuals feel safe coming forward.

This case has brought renewed attention to the need for societal change regarding attitudes towards sexual violence and the mechanisms needed to protect and empower victims. Authorities are hopeful that their ongoing efforts will lead to justice for the victim and a deterrent to potential future offenders.

Aditya Dhar’s latest film, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, is making headlines for its impressive box office performance, setting numerous records since its release. The film has garnered significant attention, both for its commercial success and the impact of a touching personal story that has emerged alongside it.

An auto-rickshaw driver who makes a fleeting appearance in the final scene of the film, has shared that he has not yet been able to watch his own performance on the big screen due to financial constraints, which has resonated with many audiences.

Financial Challenges and Family Considerations

In a video that has gained traction on social media, he openly discusses his inability to attend the film in theaters. He states, “I haven’t seen the film yet. The ticket costs around 500 rupees and the film was just released, so I haven’t been able to see it. I’ll see it later.” This sincere confession has struck a chord with viewers who empathize with his situation.

When asked if his children wished to watch the movie due to his involvement, he confirmed their interest but elaborated on the financial implications. With a family of five, the total ticket cost comes to Rs 2,500, a sum they can only afford to save in a month, prompting him to postpone their trip to the cinema.

A Call for Free Screenings

His candid remarks highlight the financial realities faced by many individuals, even those who participate in significant film projects. His story has not only drawn attention to his situation but has also inspired fans to reach out to director Aditya Dhar, urging him to arrange a complimentary screening for the auto-rickshaw driver and his family. This demonstrates the way in which the film has touched audiences beyond its artistic merit, showcasing the emotional connection it has fostered.

Box Office Performance of Dhurandhar: The Revenge

Dhurandhar: The Revenge was released on March 19, and it has maintained a robust presence at the box office. Within just six days, the film raked in an impressive Rs 575.67 crore nett domestically, with the total domestic gross nearing Rs 687 crore. Internationally, the film has collected Rs 231.57 crore, culminating in a worldwide total of Rs 919 crore. Figures such as these underscore not only the film’s commercial viability but also its cultural impact.

Recognition for All Involved

His narrative, despite being a minor role, showcases the expansive reach of the film. While the principal cast, including notable actors like Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, receive widespread acclaim, his experience provides a different, yet equally poignant perspective on the film industry. The juxtaposition of the film’s astounding success against his personal struggle sheds light on the often-overlooked challenges faced by ordinary individuals within the entertainment landscape.

A touching moment between a Delhi auto-rickshaw driver and a foreign visitor has been winning hearts online, with the video amassing over 2 million views and more than 221,000 likes on Instagram. The short clip shows a foreign woman, Tara Ingram, interacting with a local auto driver after a ride, and what unfolds next is a beautiful example of mutual respect and compassion.

The incident took place when Tara, after completing her ride, politely told the auto driver that she needed change to pay the fare. However, the driver, smiling warmly, waved off the need for payment by saying in Hindi, “Koi baat nahi, jaaiye aap” (No problem, please go). To reassure her further, he added in English, “Don’t worry.”

Visibly touched and surprised by the driver’s response, Tara asked, “Are you sure?” Just then, a passerby who happened to be nearby stepped in to confirm the driver’s sincerity with a brief, “Yes, ma’am.” Seeing the opportunity to express her feelings, Tara asked the man to interpret her gratitude.

Tourist Gifts Rs 2000 to Auto Driver After Kind Gesture

Moved by the driver’s generosity and honesty, she insisted on giving him Rs 2,000 as a gesture of thanks. She told the translator, “That’s very, very kind of him. I want to do something nice for him. I’m going to give him something for his kindness.” The translator relayed her message, and the auto driver appeared both humbled and grateful. During their brief conversation, he revealed he was a father to four children.

Since the video was posted on April 15, it has sparked a wave of emotional reactions and praise on social media. Viewers highlighted how such simple acts can carry immense emotional weight. “You probably paid his entire day’s earnings,” one user wrote, “It may not have affected you much financially, but for him, it meant a lot. Keep spreading positive vibes.”

Another viewer added, “Just wanted to remind you how amazing you are. Your kindness brings joy to those around you. I’m so lucky to have you as my best friend. Keep shining your light!” Many others commented on how moments like this showcase the generous spirit of India often overlooked in Western portrayals.

Auto Driver’s Kindness Wins Hearts Online

Interestingly, the comment section became a space of appreciation not only for Tara but also for the auto driver’s selflessness. One commenter wrote, “You’ve won millions of hearts and blessings,” while another remarked, “His smile shows he has a beautiful heart. Rewarding his kindness gives him even more reason to continue being kind.”

This heartfelt exchange, brief as it may have been, left a deep impact on viewers. In a world that can often feel rushed and impersonal, this video stood out as a reminder of how one small kind act can ripple outwards and inspire others.

Chennai, India: Namma Yatri, India’s leading open mobility app dedicated to empowering and building a strong driver community, is excited to announce a new initiative to support the education of children of auto and cab drivers in Chennai and Bengaluru. This scholarship program, called the “Namma Yatri Rising Stars”, provides financial assistance to 10th and 12th-grade students, recognizing their academic achievements and helping them pursue higher education.

The Namma Yatri Rising Stars program aims to uplift over 500 students each year, offering essential support to those who excel academically despite challenging circumstances. Among the notable recipients is Bhavana, daughter of Siddegowda who drives an auto for Namma Yatri in Bengaluru, who scored 625/625 in SSLC exam. Bhavana has been a highly aspirational and a hardworking student despite the financial situation at home and aspires to become an IAS and serve the country. These scholarships not only alleviate financial burdens but also open doors to a brighter future for these talented students.

Scholarships were awarded at events held in Bengaluru and Chennai. At the Bengaluru event, students had the opportunity to share their aspirations and participate in a cultural program. The Chennai event was presided over by Mr. T. Abraham IAS, Commissioner of Technical Education, Mr. M. Arun Prakash, Founder & CEO of Guvi and leaders of driver unions. In both cities, students were selected through a rigorous screening process to ensure that the most deserving and meritorious candidates received the scholarships.

N Chandrabose, an auto driver from Rajapalayam and father of Parthasarathy who got into IIT, shared, “This scholarship has been a blessing for my family. Despite being a school topper in 10th, I had to drop out of school and become an autorickshaw driver due to financial constraints. I did not want my son to go through a similar situation. He can now concentrate on his studies and live his dream. Namma Yatri’s support means a lot to us.” C Parthasarathy, his son, added, “I am extremely happy to receive this scholarship. It allows me to pursue my dreams without worrying about the financial burden. Knowing that Namma Yatri supports hardworking and aspirational students like me is truly motivating.”

Namma Yatri distinguishes itself from other ride-hailing services by prioritizing the welfare of its drivers. This includes initiatives like zero-commission rides, creating awareness around government welfare schemes, financial education, the Mahila Shakti Program for empowering women drivers, flexible working hours, and now, educational scholarships for their children. Namma Yatri’s commitment to community empowerment reflects its core values and mission to create a more inclusive and supportive urban mobility ecosystem.

Looking ahead, Namma Yatri plans to expand the scholarship program to more cities and develop additional welfare schemes for the betterment of drivers and their families. The company is eager to partner with government bodies, non-profit organizations, and CSR wings of corporations to scale this program and benefit a larger number of students. Drivers interested in applying for these scholarships, or citizens and corporations interested in supporting this program, can contact +91 9655522671.
