Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate 75 redeveloped railway stations across India on July 17 as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Among these, 13 stations from Madhya Pradesh will be included in the inauguration. Railway officials announced details of the event on July 14, outlining the locations and significance of the redevelopment effort.

The stations slated for redevelopment include Vidisha, Sanchi, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Beohari, Bhind, Harpalpur, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Junnor Deo, Balaghat, Chhindwara, and Nainpur. The improvements are aimed at enhancing passenger amenities and infrastructure in these key railway hubs.

In the Bhopal Division, four stations—Vidisha, Sanchi, Ashoknagar, and Shivpuri—will be highlighted during the inauguration. Saurabh Kataria, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Bhopal Division, emphasized the importance of this initiative in upgrading railway facilities in the state.

Participation of Key Officials in the Inauguration

Various dignitaries will attend the inauguration at different locations across Madhya Pradesh. Governor Mangubhai Patel is expected to participate from Sanchi, while Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be present at Tikamgarh. Additionally, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will attend the event at Ashoknagar, further underlining the significance of this redevelopment project.

The extensive upgrade is part of a larger initiative, with a total of 80 railway stations set for redevelopment across Madhya Pradesh at an estimated cost of nearly Rs 3,000 crore. Some stations have already been inaugurated in previous phases, while a further 13 will be made available to the public in this current phase.

The railway officials anticipate that more stations will be inaugurated in the following months, contingent upon the completion of ongoing redevelopment works. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise India’s railway infrastructure.

Focus on Modern Infrastructure and Passenger Amenities

The redeveloped stations have been meticulously designed to meet the infrastructural needs for the next 40 to 50 years. Passenger facilities have been upgraded with features such as spacious waiting halls, improved circulating areas, special provisions for differently-abled individuals, and modern train indicator boards.

Further improvements include expanding foot overbridges from approximately 4.5 metres to a more accommodating 12 metres, enhancing safety and accessibility for passengers. The comprehensive design aims to ensure that these facilities are capable of handling future demands effectively.

In addition to passenger amenities, the stations will house commercial spaces, positioning them as central hubs for activities in their respective cities. This approach is intended to stimulate local business and increase usage by the public, aligning with the core objectives of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Overall, the redevelopment of these railway stations is expected to serve as a catalyst for urban growth and development throughout Madhya Pradesh. By enhancing transportation infrastructure, the initiative aims to improve connectivity and foster economic opportunities in the region.
