इस प्रोजेक्ट में 40,000 करोड़ की लागत से 6 स्टेल्थ फ्रिगेट बनाए जाने हैं। इनका निर्माण मझगांव डॉक शिपबिल्डर्स लिमिटेड और गार्डन रीच शिपबिल्डर्स एंड इंजीनियर्स द्वारा किया जाएगा। स्टेल्थ तकनीक के चलते दुश्मन के रडार पर इनकी पहचान मुश्किल होगी, जिससे ये कई महत्वपूर्ण अभियानों में उपयोगी साबित होंगे।

प्रोजेक्ट-18A: भारत की महत्वाकांक्षी योजना

ये प्रोजेक्ट भारत का सबसे महत्वाकांक्षी सरफेस वॉरशिप प्रोजेक्ट माना जा रहा है। इसमें 6 विशाल युद्धपोत बनाए जाएंगे, जिनका वजन 14 से 15 हजार टन होगा। ये युद्धपोत न केवल लंबी दूरी तक ऑपरेट करने के लिए सक्षम होंगे, बल्कि आधुनिक कमांड एंड कंट्रोल सिस्टम और भविष्य के हथियारों को भी शामिल करेंगे।

हिंद महासागर में बढ़ते तनाव का समाधान

The Astra missile is poised to play a pivotal role in India’s missile export agenda, following the recent agreements with Indonesia, potentially marking the country as the first buyer of this advanced missile.

To grasp the wider implications of India’s defence export evolution, India Today’s Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) team analysed governmental data and arms transfer records provided by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Their findings reveal that the export footprint extends across at least 23 nations, showcasing a diversification in military equipment beyond previously established flagship systems.

Strategic Agreements and Developments

The recent agreement between India and Indonesia is significant not only for the Astra missile but also for fortifying diplomatic relations with an essential member of the ASEAN bloc under India’s Act East Policy. The Astra Mk1, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is India’s first indigenous beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile. Since its induction into the Indian Air Force in 2019, the missile has demonstrated its capabilities against agile aerial targets even under adverse conditions.

Additively, the Pinaka Weapon System, also developed by DRDO, is making its way into global markets. This advanced multi-barrel rocket launcher is designed for rapid fire support, with Armenia identified as its first international recipient. The variety of India’s defence offerings extends well beyond missiles, with a substantial presence in naval and maritime platforms across several Indian Ocean nations.

Institutions like SIPRI document India’s export activities in various sectors, including naval aircraft, patrol vessels, and helicopter systems to several countries. Notably, Armenia has emerged as a pivotal defence ally, accounting for a significant portion of its military procurement from India. Recent data indicates that India constitutes 43 per cent of Armenia’s total arms imports, representing a lucrative partnership bolstered by India’s strategic commodities in military hardware.

This is not the first piracy attempt thwarted by the Indian Navy in recent weeks. On June 19, INS Trikand had responded to a distress call from MV Fareeda 5, which was also under threat from pirates in the Western Indian Ocean. The proactive approach by the Indian Navy during this incident effectively deterred the potential attack and ensured the security of the ship.

In a statement released regarding the June 19 operation, the Indian Navy highlighted its commitment to safeguarding merchant shipping and countering piracy in the region. According to PM Modi, the agreement will facilitate joint efforts to develop defence technologies aimed at enhancing regional peace and maritime security. The UNICORN project is expected to strengthen the military capabilities of the Indian Navy by improving the stealth characteristics of its naval platforms.

In November 2024, a Memorandum of Implementation was signed at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo, formalising the initiative between the Indian and Japanese governments. The focus of this collaboration will be on the co-development of the UNICORN mast, which will be fitted onto ships belonging to the Indian Navy.

Statements from the Leaders

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi also expressed her support for the newly established partnership. During her address, she emphasised the importance of leveraging the strengths of both nations to foster peace and stability in the region. Takaichi noted that India and Japan are currently among the largest economies globally, which positions them to undertake significant initiatives in support of a free and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

Another significant MoC addresses the pharmaceuticals sector, while yet another involves cooperation between India’s Ministry of Heavy Industries and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry concerning battery technologies. Furthermore, both nations signed a MoC on organic fertiliser production, aimed at promoting energy security and sustainable mobility.

These agreements reflect the broader intent of both governments to deepen their partnership across various sectors and address global challenges collectively. Numerous citizens in Venezuela have expressed gratitude towards the Indian Army for their timely intervention amidst the crisis. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared videos on X showing families thanking Indian personnel for the medical care provided at the Army Field Hospital.

One video featured a local resident detailing her experience at the hospital, specifically praising the high quality of medical care received. Such testimonials underscore the positive impact of foreign humanitarian assistance during this disaster.

The situation on the ground remains dire, with NASA researchers estimating that approximately 58,870 structures were affected or completely destroyed by the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela. As reported by various sources, the death toll has reached 1,719, highlighting the urgent need for ongoing relief efforts.

Current Status of Relief Efforts and Ongoing Challenges

As of now, the Indian Army is committed to providing continuous medical support through its Field Hospital, which has become a crucial resource for individuals requiring treatment. Over 22,619 individuals have reportedly been affected by the earthquakes, with at least 5,034 injuries documented. The destruction of 855 buildings, including 189 that have completely collapsed, presents logistical challenges for both local and international relief teams.

Furthermore, since the earthquakes occurred on June 24, a total of 609 aftershocks have been recorded. Experts from the US Geological Survey warn that the final death toll may still rise significantly, with a 44 per cent chance of exceeding 10,000 fatalities. This ongoing threat reinforces the immediate need for sustained humanitarian interventions.
